Why wouldn't you take a mercury in glass thermometer with you to south pole?

∙ 10y agoYou could use whichever you want. But a mercury thermometer would not
show you the temperature when it's below minus 38 degrees, because that's
the temperature at which mercury freezes. You could keep the thermometer
inside the laboratory building where it's warm, or in your shirt next to your
body when you're outside, but that would kind of defeat the purpose of the
thermometer.
