Because it is said to be true by Chinese legends and myths, but the archeological evidence for it is too sparse to be proof.

Hi Guys the First Chinese Dynasty was the Xia Dynasty. Yu the Great established this Dynasty in 1600 BC. When he got killed china was ruled by the shang Dynasty Changes from Deathmanf1re: The first dynasty was not Xia as some people say. Yan Huang Zi Sun was the first dynasty. The first guy was Huang Di then Yao then Sun and finally Yu. The reason why they started Xia dynasty is because before Xia, people were elected to be the leader but Yu was killed by his son and his son was the leader so people think that only the oldest son can be the emperor/leader.
King yu was the first King/Empoeror of the xia Dynasty
The Shang dynasty came after the Xia dynasty. The Xia dynasty was once thought to be a myth but then they found evidence to support that it really did exist.
According to some of the earliest records of the Shang, the first dynasty was the Xia dynasty. But some historians believe this dynasty is a myth. I think the Xia dynasty really was an existent dynasty however so I would say it is the earliest. It started at about 2000 B.C. and ended at about 1600 B.C.
The Xia dynasty lasted from ca. 2070 BC-ca. 1600 BC.
