It is important to follow the law for all sorts of reasons. The United States has specific reasons for why they make laws. For instance, there are so many people who break the law as it is. Imagine if there was no law? People could do anything they wanted and never get in trouble. People could go around killing other people for no reason if we did not have a law against it. If we did not have laws, we would not have any structure.
Which laws would you choose not to obey?
What if your neighbor down the road chose to not obey the law that states that you are not allowed to kill? What if your other neighbor came to your house to rape you, because he chose to ignore the law?
You should obey the law, because laws are made to protect people from each other and their own stupidity. Without laws there would be absolute chaos in the world as not every person lives by the same principals.
From a Christian point of view: Jesus was asked about paying taxes and he said to "pay back Caesar's things to Caesar, but God's things to God. Paul later emphasized this at Romans 13:1-7 where he mentioned that the existing authorities are here in relative subjection to God to keep the world from becoming out of control with badness. To follow laws of the government is a Christian obligation as long as it doesn't interfere or conflict with your worship of God.
Laws have always been used in civilized societies to hold those societies together. They are the framework for any society because people have disputes and conflicts, even in a well ordered society. Therefore, it is essential that we all follow the laws in our communities. Otherwise, a society is unstable and ineffective and the strong can take advantage of the more vulnerable members. All the reasons why we need to follow laws are too numerous to list here. The following are some of the reasons why we need laws:
If you don't obey the law you might be classified as criminals and get thrown into jail or fined or both.
In the absence of any laws, sociopaths, thieves and violent people would wreak havoc.
