If you store your car in a garage, your car may be picking up a gasoline smell from a near by gas can or gas appliance that clears out after you drive it. Also, if there is something spilled in the car that smells similar to gas, the fumes may build up in the car when the windows are closed, then dissapate when the car is driven (windows open or fan on or air otherwise recirculated).

New answerAs to your intermittent brake light, check the brake fluid level in the reservoir. Also, check that the rubber diaphragm in the lid has'NT ballooned-out (sometimes happens after a hard-braking episode w/low fluid level). Smell the oil, if smells like some gas is in it. then it would be ur fuel pressure regulator.
