Why would you die if you drank sea water?

If you drank it to survive you would eventually. Drinking seawater increases the salt content of your body. This leads to a build up of salt in body which forces the body to urinate to get rid of the excess salt. unfortunately the amount of salt in sea water is greater than that which the kidneys can excrete. this results in heart failiure caused by the change of nerve conductivity. You can however dilute seawater in fresh water at a ratiuo of 3 fresh to 2 salt in a survival situation without harmfull effects. On one occasion a ship was wrecked and 160 people were set adrift. 39% of people who drank sea water died compared with just 6% who drank fresh water. So QED drinking sea water in large amounts is not recommended.

If your kidneys were not working what would happen if you drank a large quantity of water?

You'd get an increased water concentration, that will, force water into your cells and tissues, causing your body to swell.

An estuary is an ecological zone where rivers meet what other body of water?

water is mixed with seawater

Does seawater dehydrate skin faster than freshwater due to osmotic pressure?

Yes; In our body there is more water and less salt. In our stomach there is more salt and less water. However, the skinabsorbs all sorts of materials into them. Osmosis plays an important part in what happens when we are exposed to seawater via diffusion - the driving movement from high concentration to low concentration - so the water in our body (because skin is a membranous tissue absorbing these substances from the water) is driven out towards the lower concentration of water in the salty seawater. BOTTOM LINE: Seawater (saltwater) actually sucks water out of your body thus promoting dehydration because it is semi-permeable and so the salt pretty much stays put but the (fresher) water can move back and forth in our skin or body fairly easily.

Can drinking help you lose weight?

1) If you previously drank soda and sweet drinks and switched to water, that would help you lose some weight. But ditch the junk food too. 2) If you previously drank too little water and increased your water intake to the recommended level, that would help you lose some weight (since your body will no longer need to store so much water).

What will be the fluid of an osmoconformer in a freshwater environment?

Osmoconformers regulate their body fluids by maintaining internal osmolarity that is equal to the water surrounding them. In a freshwater environment, there would be no osmolarity; it applies to salt and seawater.

Set adrift in the ocean Secret Agent 008 has no water and wisely avoids drinking seawater as his body would process all the salt with its own water resources How long does 008 have to live assum?

A couple days

Why should be drink seawater during dehydration?

Sea water is different to our body water levels. Sea water contains a lot of salts and by drinking sea water, we would ultimately be altering our isotonic levels. It has to do with osmosis and water gradients. I don't really think you should drink seawater during dehydration as it will only serve to dehydrate you more, as you are removing more water and replacing with salt, thus causing a hypotonic environment for your cells.

How much weight will you lose if you drank 1 gallon of water for 2 months?

You would not necessarily lose any. Especially if you exercise or live in a hot, humid climate, drinking a gallon of water daily is a good idea anyway. There is one way it could affect your body composition: if you drank COLD water. If you drink water that is, say, 40 degrees F, you body would heat it up to body temperature (about 98.6 degrees F) and it would expend calories to do that. Test it and see how it works for you. All things being equal, you may be able to lose about one pound monthly doing that

Will dead body float in seawater?

Dead body(s) will float in seawater [at least dead animal body(s) do]. ... visualize that once the body begins to decompose bacterial gases will cause the body to float to the surface ... imagine that body(s) which end up in deep water (thereby very cold water) do not experience bacterial decomposition as quickly and consequently with limited light and oxygen any bodies in deep/cold water decompose and are consumed more slowly without floating to the surface due to bacterial gas expansion common to warm water ...

What is the difference between iso saline and hypo saline?

Iso saline refers to a body of water with equal salt concentrations (for example when compared to seawater). Hypo saline conditions is when the salt concentration is less than that of seawater.

Why is the rate of dehydration greater in seawater than in fresh lake water?

Osmosis - The water inside your body wants to move to the more hypertonic solution to dilute it and you become jerky
