some times a car turns it self off for a safety reasons if your on a hill and needing to close the fuel supply and sometimes its so fuel economy is increased...
Your car may shut off when you come to a stop for many different reason , none of which are stated above.
The idle control could be bad, the fuel filter may be bad, the fuel pressure regulator may be bad. You should really take the car to a mechanic.
My car does NOT do that.
Your car might turn off when you come to a stop because the car has an electrical problem or a problem with the distributor. It might also turn off when you come to a stop because of a timing issue.
If by "stop the engine", you mean turn the car off, then the answer is NO!
Turn the ignition off.

Locate the flasher control switch and turn it off.

you should put your car in neutral when it has come to a complete stop, or when you turn it off or on
Stall the car to stop the engine.
