The maximum prescribed dose of Alprazolam seems to be 10mg per day. 90mg would certainly be an overdose, but not necessarily lethal. This would depend on body weight, tolerance, metabolic functioning and overall health.

Drugs.com (see link below) cites both Pfizer and the FDA in stating:The acute oral LD50 in rats is 331--2171 mg/kg. Other experiments in animals have indicated that cardiopulmonary collapse can occur following massive intravenous doses of Alprazolam (over 195 mg/kg; 975 times the maximum recommended daily human dose of 10 mg/day).

Obviously, we can't test for LD50 in humans, and I'm sure you're aware that rat physiology is similar enough to human so that we can make rough estimates about toxicity.

Further, anecdotal evidence (which I likely could actually reference if I get motivated enough) has shown ER admissions with acute oral overdosages well in excess of 90mg, that survived without post-event complications.

I therefore further would state that, while I feel a 90mg acute oral dosage is dangerous, way beyond clinical dosage, etc. it is not likely to be lethal.

When taken alone, xanax as well as other benzodapines are remarkably benign. It is in combination with other drugs, especially alcohol, that overdoses on such a substance usually occur.

Probably not, but you'll get a very good sleep. If you take it with alcohol or narcotics, on the other hand, you'll probably get the "long sleep."

The preceding answer is mostly right, but I'd like to clarify one point. The legend of a synergistic relationship between "down" medication and alcohol almost certainly dates from the last century, when barbiturates were the drug of choice as sleeping aids. It turns out that barbiturates and ETOH (alcohol) have an evil synergy, so that a moderate doses of both could easily turn lethal.

Nowadays, however, barbiturates are almost never prescribed, and certainly not as an anti-anxiety med like alprazolam (Xanax). What's more, Xanax and ETOH do NOT have that synergy. While I'm by no means saying that you can safely combine the two -- you shouldn't -- it isn't typically deadly.

One last thought. 90mg of alprazolam is a huge dose. While it likely won't kill you, it won't be good for you. I have to wonder if you're considering the right thing to do.

Prob not unless you are allergic to it or have some type of breathing problems or apnea, most it will do it make you sleep for awhile, very deep sleep. i wouldnt reccomend taking over 2mg without having a tolorance.

Anything will kill if used in excess...even water can kill if you drink too much or drown in it.

It is certainly possible that 50 Xanax will kill.
