According to an article in the Chicago Tribune on Saturday, January 4, 2014, Chicago schools will remain open during the unseasonly cold weather, but parents are strongly encouraged to use their own discretion as to whether to send their children to school.
Building engineers will go in on Sunday to turn up the heat in classrooms. If there are any heating malfunctions, students will be taken to alternate sites. Contracters who run the buses are checking them to be sure they will be ready to run on time on Monday.
Parents who drop their children off at school are encouraged to dress their children warmly and to take them to school at the regular time. Children will have recess inside and will be kept inside until parents pick them up.
