It is very unlikely that average people will be able to visit Mars within the next century. It's not likely that ANY humans will visit Mars within the next 50 years.
When I was a boy in 1960, I was certain that I would live to see the first man on the Moon within my lifetime. What I did _NOT_ expect was that I would live to see the LAST man to walk on the Moon. And yet..... The first man to walk on the Moon was in 1969; the LAST man to walk on the Moon was in 1972. Here on New Year's Eve, December 2014, it has been 42 years since the last man walked on the Moon - and nobody has any serious plans to go back.
