The answer to your original question is no mystery and it is not hard to find. You just have to know where to find it. The fact is, it is no further than the Bible.

If you have a Bible, go to Matthew chapter 24, and read Jesus words describing the time of the end of this present worldly system of things. Jesus here describes worldwide warfare, food shortages, eathquake and natural disasters, crime, disease, and other problems. Some people say that these things have always been around. They are both right and wrong. All the things that Jesus describes have been around a long time, but we face a unique situation. It has climaxed to the point that man's very existence is in doubt. Mankind has been pushed to the brink of peril on several fronts. Wars, food shortage, disease, economic woes, and ecological problems each have the potential to wipe humans out of existence. This has never been the case before. Before the 20th century, humans didn't even have the power to completely eliminate themselves of the face of the earth, but now they do, and that threat is very real.

2 Peter 3:1-4 also descibes people's attitudes and heart conditions in the "last days." The Bible says that people would be lovers of themselves, haughty, slanderers, disobedient to parents, betrayers, puffed up with pride, and many other things that we now see on a worldwide scale.

But something that Jesus said in Matthew 24:14 is inetresting. He said "this good news of the Kingdom will be preached to all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations." Jesus referred to this as "good news" even though all the things he had just outlined before were bad things. Why? Because as he says in Luke 21:28,"as these things start to occur, raise yourselves erect and lift YOUR heads up, because YOUR deliverance is getting near."

All the bad conditions on the earth today mean that we are living in the time that the Bible calls the time of the end.
