Gaddafi has the right to govern his nation how he chooses, but his actions throughout this revolution have been horrendous. However, he knows that if he steps down or shows any signs that his regime is on the edge of collapse, he will be executed by his people for his crimes. Therefore, he will maintain power as long as he possibly can because when he inevitably falls, his life ends. He cannot, "wimp out," for he is bound to his nation by blood and without power he will die at the hands of the rebels. Gaddafi will most likely kill himself before he lays down his arms.
