Currently, Singer is owned by a private equity firm, Kohlberg & Company. According to Reuters (link below), Kohlberg is looking to sell Singer sewing machine company. However, there has been no mention of going public, and therefore wouldn't be trading on the Stock Market.

Maybe Singer was the best at one time but I did some research and according to many consumer sites, as well as Amazon.com, Brother is the higher rated machine these days. The history of Brother is that a Japanese company wanted to make a better machine than Singer, which dominated the market in Japan. So, once again, the Japanese have improved an American product.
