No, even though they look nearly identical. The '92 model is called a 4T-440 transmission which uses a Throttle valve to determine timing, whereas the '96 model is called a 4T60E Transmission, which uses the PCM(Powertrain Control Module) to determine shift points and timing. I think you'll have to stay within a '96 to '99 year model GM vehicle with a 3100 V6.
