the 2.2 engine has been the same in cavaliers since the 80's. so yes the engine should be a perfect fit. there may be a few minor cosmetic differences like the intake hose or something like that. but the engine itself is the same.
The engine mounts are slightly different as well but fabricating replacements shouldn't be that difficult.
