That is referred to as "back dating" and it is illegal at the federal level.
If it is a 2.4 liter engine with dohc it does not have a dip stick... it is a sealed transmission.

You can swap the engine from your 1997 Cavalier 2.2 liter engine to your 2000 Chevy Cavalier. The wiring harness and motor mounts should be in exactly the same.
