220V 60 Hz will be found between phases of a 3 phase 117V system (like the one used in North America).
220V 50 Hz will be found between phase and ground (neutral) in many Europe and countries (though now it has been standardized to 240V 50 Hz).
The frequency of the alternating current is a significant difference in many applications but some equipment is not frequency sensitive (tungsten filament light bulbs for example).

No. The terms Hertz and Voltage are unrelated. Hertz is a measure of frequency. It means cycles per second. Voltage is a measure of electrical pressure. It means joules per coulomb.

No, but in some cases it is made to be used for both frequencies and in that case specifically mentioned on the type plate: 50/60 Hertz.

No, the voltage spread is too far apart.

Is it possible to hook up a 110V TV to a 220V outlet via a power converter?

Using a power converter, it is quite possible to run a 110V television on a 220V supply. The converter ensures that the television will only see 110V. However, the question implies that a television is being taken from one country to another. If that is the case, television signal standards vary throughout the world and RF tuners vary across the world. Although some televisions offer multi-standard operation, many do not. It is worth doing some extra research on the two countries in question before making a decision to ship a television anywhere.

Can a 220v window unit run off 208v?

Actually it can happen with a T.V but windows only takes 5v , not more and not less. A tv can take min 200 and max 220. So never give your windows more than 5v because it is an electronic device and TV is an electric device.

Why do Canada and the U.S. run at 60 Hertz when most of world runs at 50 Hertz?

There is a discussion here: http://www.school-for-champions.com/science/ac_world_volt_freq.htm Summary: Tesla, working at Westinghouse, in the 1890's designed some of the first electrical generators, and determined that 60Hz was an efficient voltage. This system was used in other countries, but German engineers dominated Europe, and they decided that 50Hz was a better fit for the Metric system. Thinking of 50Hz as Metric-friendly is pretty silly, because all of the other time units are not Metric. Hertz is based on seconds, and there's 60 of them in an minute, not 50. It also influenced television frequencies, where it turns out that 50Hz is barely sufficient, and 60Hz reduces eye strain.

What will you do if you burned out your 110v tv set into a 220v female plug Will you be able to reuse it?

This is a highly unlikely scenario due to the fact that 120 volt and 240 volt receptacles have different pin configurations. The TV 120 volt plug end (cap) would have to be cut off and then a 240 volt cap put in its place. The money spent just to ruin a TV seem a little out of place.

Will a 120v 60hz tv work on a 120v 50hz power supply?

Maybe... most modern equipment will operate on 90V - 260V so it's worth checking before buying a voltage converter for it. If the DVD player is 120V, that suggests that it is North American and will play NTSC standard discs. Using it on a 240V region means it is likely that it will be in a PAL zone. THerefore, discs bought locally may not work because of regional codings, because of the difference between PAL and NTSC and because the display may not be able to handle NTSC. Some DVD players will play any standard (NTSC or PAL) and some displays will also handle either standard. A handful of players do not have region codes either. It is worth a little more research before you assume that the DVD player will perform as you hope.

Do you need a TV with 120hz for Xbox 360 or will 60hz work as well?

60hz Works fine I assume, I've got the same TV that i used to play Game cube and that always asks about 60hz or 50hz some times even 40hz! So I assume you can!

Can you run 50hz tv off 60hz genaretor?

It depends on the TV; you'll have to check the specification of the TV in question.

Can you play Far Cry 2 for Xbox 360 on a 50Hz TV?

No. It is a American game and they use 60Hz. So no.

Will a tv bought in the us work in Ghana?

Ghana uses PAL 50Hz television standards while North America uses NTSC 60Hz. Although some US televisions will operate on 50Hz and PAL color systems, by no means all of them will. It will be much safer to buy locally or at least to buy in Europe where PAL 50Hz standards are used. There are methods to use North American televisions on European signals but they tend to be cumbersome and expensive.

Can i use an American Apple TV in Australia?

No. Australia's electricity supply is 230 volts at 50Hz... america's is 120 volts at 60Hz.

Will an American tv work in Australia with a transformer?

While some North American televisions will work in Australia, not all of them will. There are a number of factors to be considered. First, the television will need to run on a 230V supply instead of 115V in North America. Many televisions will handle any voltage from 100V to 260V at 50 to 60Hz. If it is rated for just 110V, a transformer can work but is not ideal. You should be aware that consumer-grade transformers (voltage converters) are not intended to be used continuously for long periods of time. Second, Australia uses 50Hz PAL and 50Hz HD whereas US video is 60Hz and NTSC encoded. Many modern televisions will handle either 50 or 60Hz and when displaying SD signals will decode PAL or NTSC signals. Not all displays have this capability and there is no low cost way to satisfactorily convert 50Hz signals to 60Hz. The manufacturer will be able to confirm its capabilities or look in the specification for signal handling that includes: PAL, 576i 50Hz, 1080i 50Hz, 720p 50Hz, 1080p 50Hz and 1080p 25hz. If it handles these signals, it should operate with Australian signals. Finally, the terrestrial tuner is likely to operate at different frequencies so you may need to use a separate terrestrial cable or satellite receiver to receive off air signals. Before investing, be sure that each of the point are covered. It could be an expensive investment if you get caught out with incompatible signals.

Does American HDMI work with UK tv?

Yes. HDMI is a world wide standard for digital video, however the source component can run at different resolutions and different vertical refresh frequencies. Most American HDMI video sources will output 720p, 1080i or 1080p at 60Hz, while UK sources will be the same resolutions but at 50Hz. Many displays will auto switch when presented with either 50Hz or 60Hz HDMI video inputs, but you would need to check the specification.

Are American televisions typically 50 hz?

American television runs at 60Hz, or to be precise, 59.94Hz. This is the standard field rate for all NTSC compliant countries including US, Canada, most of South America and Japan. PAL signals, used by UK, Europe and many of the old French and British empire countries is 50Hz. Most modern European televisions and monitors will accept 60Hz inputs and NTSC colour encoding and the majority of DVD players will play 60Hz material (subject to regional zoning codes). US material is relatively common in the UK, creating the demand for 60Hz compliance. US televisions may not support 50Hz signals for the simple reason that European material is far less common in the Americas. The majority of new televisions should be 50Hz compliant but it's well worth getting a definite answer before buying, if it's a feature you need to have.

Will a sony internet tv purchased in USA compatible in India?

Can you take an ntsc xbox 360 to France?

France use PAL format video, you would not be able to play NTSC video on a PAL TV. Bring a NTSC monitor with you as long it can handle France's 220v 50Hz power

Will a eurpean samsung led tv work in us?

Not without some serious modifications !... The mains voltage is different to Europe. The frame rate is different - 60Hz in america 50Hz in Europe The number of lines that makes up the picture is different and The built in tuner is not compatible. Although you could get it modified by a technician, the cost involved would be better spent on a new TV once you got there !
