The plastic cover is there soley for looks. The motor should run fine, just aswell without it. It simply covers the intake manifold and injection.
I know on my vortec engine the valve cover bolts are in the center of the cover and there is only 4, my racecar has vortec heads and my truck has standard stock heads with four bolts on thew corners
look om the passengers back side of the valve cover. You need to take off the vortec cover.
The vortec used a plastic timing cover with the crank sensor mounted in it at the lower end. The cover and gasket come as one part and are meant to be replaced when removed. Although I will say that if you clean it properly and dry it well with brake cleaner and use a quality sealer you will be ok reusing it. it is located under the water pump and against the front of the block covering the timing chain, gears and reluctor wheel for the crank sensor.
Passenger valve cover up to 95 vortec 4.3 and drivers side valve cover 96 and later vortec 4.3 plastic hose going to the top of it on either version.
YES, It is bolted in the lower passenger side of the timing cover behind the harmonic balancer It is held in place with 1 10mm bolt
Not if the are the same fitting wise and gaskets are used if necessary. There could be differences as the vortec is designed differently.
It's under the the plastic Vortec labeled cover on the top of the engine
how much torque for a Chevy Z71 350 vortec engine valve cover
1996 was the first year that all GM trucks went to Vortec engines - it IS a Vortec...
It is on the front of the engine, behind the timing cover where the timing chain and gears are. You will have to remove the front of the engine to get to it.It is not in the oil pan were they use to be. It now slides over the front of the crankshaft.
