it depends opn how young they both are. Maltese usually stick to their owners and get very jealous and protective when they are older. If the Maltese and shar-pei are both young, then yes, they should.
Plus, the maltest may be scared of sucha big dog, so you may have to teach the shar-pei to not be aggressive towards the Maltese.
