A big block WILL just SLIDE in. They have motor mounts that work directly with s10's for big block swapping and only run a mere $150. Just like the small block swaps which as well slide into place, the big block will do the same thing and trans will be correct as well. You don't have to chop cut and rebuild the front end like most negative or some never tried person says(most likely those who never tried or works at a shop where they chop everything they get so those types never listen too). The Cross member for most auto transmissions work with ever so slight modding IF ANY. Whatever you do, DO NOT chop off the wires on the electronic speed gear depending on your year model, you can get wires to extend down to the trans of your choice and RETAIN YOUR SPEEDO!! I explain this from first hand experience and the least amount of modding as with any drag car/truck you build is the exhaust. They also made s10 swap headers for big blocks too but if you can save the money and slip away with your choice. Just be sure your choice will allow enough room to clear under the firewall and from there you can have custom exhaust done at your local shop but after you fire up that BBC, you probably wont need any extra piping ;-) Last thing, after you have done your swap, be sure to make it a priority to get a rear end or get a posi for your current rear. That 550ft lb torque will grenade that rear sooner or later the more and more you smash into the gas I promise. :-) take care and happy building
It sounds like you want to know how to change the engine in a 1970 Chevy truck from a small block to a big block. If that is the case; there is no difference in the mounting of the engine to the transmission or motor mounts. The exhaust system will need to be changed, and the small block radiator might not be big enough to handle the extra heat made by a big block when it's being worked. (such as on a hot day or pulling a heavy load)
the big Chevy truck rod is bigger than a passenger car rod.
From the front of the motor, clockwise.
NO. Not even close.
There is not a 350 engine known as a "big block". If the caprice and the truck are the same year it should fit perfectly.
A small block. It is the first motor squared, by Chevy, meaning it has a 4 inch bore, and 4 inch stroke.
There is such a thing as a 454 truck engine, also 454 passenger car engine.
No the 350 has always been a small block. The smallest big block made by Chevrolet was the 366 truck engine and the 396 car engine.
Yes there is a 350 Big Block, they are very uncommon to find. the motor came from the ideas of the 350 big block as well as the But in the 1970's, Chevy came out with one of there own to counter the They where not used in everyday car's but, once in while you'd find them in car's that demanded a little more muscle. The closest thing to a 350 big block would be the 348 that started out as a truck motor in the late 50's and evolved into the 409. The next generation of big blocks began with the 396 in '65, then the 427 in '66. A 366 big block (tall deck) was also introduced in the 60's.
no
Yeah, but, I would use the Chevy trans, as well. You will have to fabricate everything.
You can use the pulleys, however, the 91 will probably have smog equipment that the 79 does not. You will have to get a shorter belt, as well.
