The answer is no. The 1.2 Punto is not and interference fit and therefore the valves do not get damaged by turning over without a cam belt.
head off shims out buckets out and valve spring compressor remove collets and remove valves.
i have a 2006 grande punto that timing chain snapped at 72000 miles
about £700 not cheap!
I assume you are speaking of a timing belt (as it is known in the states). If the belt is snapped, there could be damage as the valves could have stopped in an open position while the pistons were still in motion, causing a potential for interference between the parts. As to the clearance in the motor, I cannot say but there are motors that can break a belt & not be damaged. Most of these motors are of the low horsepower variety (a Fiat Punto 1.2 fits this description). Only an inspection upon repair will give you certain answer.
If your gasket has blown and overheating occured then skimming will almost certainly be needed. Send it for testing and skimming better to be safe than sorry.
