yes, oil is not compressible, so when it gets in between parts, it basically keeps them from ever touching. without oil, you will have shards of metal in your engine, and it would probably overheat. but starting it all depends on how much power is going to the starter and how strong the starter is. but yeah, it will have a hard time starting and will want to die.
