If you manage to plug the cable ...

The short answer is NO.

The long answer is that yes it will work provided you purchase an adapter, which will set you back anywhere from US$10-20. You can buy a bilingual cable at monoprice. Here's a link: http://bit.ly/400to800

Not too much to be able to use some of your old FW400 gear. This is because, like USB 2.0 is backwards compatible with 1.1, FW 800 should (and i say should because I'm sure about all computers and OS's) be compatible with FW 400, provided you get the plug into the different shaped port! Thus the adapter will be a lifesaver!

Does the canon ZR90 work on Mac?

The Canon ZR90 works with a Mac. It uses a FireWire connection so you will need a suitable FireWire cable and a FireWire 800/400 adapter if the Mac only has a FireWire 800 socket.

What is a FireWire 800 port?

FireWire (technically known as an IEEE 1394 interface), introduced by Apple in 1995, allows a fast connection for peripherals such as video cameras. It is similar to a USB connector. The original version is now known as FireWire 400. FireWire 800 was introduced to give faster transfer speeds and supporting longer cable lengths without loss of signal. The connectors for the 400 and 800 versions are not interchangeable but converters are available which will allow FireWire 400 equipment to be connected to the FireWire 800 port at the slower connection speed.

What can a 6 wire firewire cable do that a 4 wire firewire can't do?

The 6 wire FireWire 400 cable includes 2 wires that supply 30VDC power to the device that are left out in the 4 wire cable to permit use of a smaller connector.

Can you connect USB to a Firewire Port?

At first no as they are separate technologies (USB- Universal Serial Bus, Firewire- IEEE 1394a/Firewire 400), so you cannot connect a usb to a firewall or visa versa. There are ways however. These include purchasing two expansion cards (PCI, ISA or SCSI depending on the type and space left on your motherboard). OR purchasing a Hub/adapter that connects in either a USB or Firewire port, and accommodates at least one USB and one Firewire port. However, there is also a newer type of Firewire (Firewire 800) which is under the standard of IEEE 1894b. This offers double the speed in transfer compared to the IEEE 1394a, however neither a USB cable of anytype (USB, or USB 2.0) or Firewire 1394a cable can fit into a 1894b port or visa versa. There may well be hubs/adapters for these too. USB and Firewire- Both are Serial Ports. Both offering Plug and Play/Hot Swapping capabilities (Depending on your Computer's hardware and software). Hope this Helps J
