Sounds like you're asking as your thinking of purchasing it on-line. Don't! Save the hassle & go to Best Buy, Walmart, Staples, or wherever, take your 16' laptop and see if it fits. With little less than 1/2', there should not be a problem, but you never know.

Probably, unless the backpack is extremely rigid. If it is made of material, there has to be a little give to it, and one third of an inch is not very much. That is roughly 5/16 of an inch.
