It is not certain that it will explode every time you throw it hard against cement. But, it could. I have performed this experiment before with lighters, never one's that are full though, usually they are almost empty. They explode and it is really cool. I don't think it is a fire explosion, more like a pressure explosion, I think that the gas in them is pressurized.
