no it is not true , but be cautious before touching the babies , make sure that you pet the doe first and then rub your hands in some hay , she will continue to feed them and it is very very rare she will kill them, you should check them once a day and make sure there is no dead baby rabbits and that they are all healthy ..
Hope i helped :)
If the mother is a domesticated rabbit that you personally own, there is actually little to no risk in touching the babies even without gloves, if you just wash your hands before and after. The reason it's okay is because the mother should be used to your scent and it really wouldn't change how they're being taken care of. I breed rabbits and hold the babies from day 1 so they're used to humans. if you find wild baby bunnies that are still nursing, it is better to avoid touching without gloves because the wild rabbits aren't used to human contact and will smell you on the babies which can (but won't always) cause them to stop caring for them.
If the glove smells like some sort of perfume maybe. But I dont think so.
Yes, she will. It's a myth that she will leave her babies due to a human touching them. The maternal feelings are stronger than that.
No. A mother rabbit can still smell it's own baby's smell. It will not kill its baby.
He takes off one glove in Long-Haired Hare (1949). The glove hangs in the air by itself until he puts it back on.
Having delivered many human babies, equine foals, dogs, calves, etc. I presume rabbits are the same. If the bunny gets stuck in the birth canal, both will die. If you try to pull it out you can injure the mother by tearing the birth canal, causing bleeding or damaging the ureter or rectum and/or vagina. It is a tough call, probably gentle traction is the best bet. If not down far enough for this, you must try to push it back in, turn it around and try to deliver headfirst. This is difficult enough with a human or a horse, let alone a rabbit when all you can use is your finger. If you do this, use a glove and betadyne, since you will be pushing germs into the rabbit and possibly cause infection. Work in between contractions.
