No, the coil is in the cap on a HEI distributor also there will be 6 pickup elements instead of 8

NO. The pick-up coil in the 6 cylinder distributor only has 6 points on it because the engine only has 6 cylinders. You must have a 8 cylinder distributor for the V-8 engine.
