Yes and no. The body will repair itself to the best of its ability, but this can cause serious problems afterward. Yes it will, but medical attention is still needed to immobilize the area where the stress fracture is until it heals on it's own. I fractured a bone in my left ankle and all they did was put a tensor bandage on it and handed me crutches. It did heal on it's own, but as I grew older I do have some Arthritis in that area, but nothing I can't handle without medication. The doctor that attended to me said a clean break was better than a fracture. HUH? No one wants either.
4 year old girl, broken humerus 2" from shoulder ball. doctor, put a low sling on it a said it will heal itself. humerus bones overlap each other an 1". has not been set or casts. should i get a second opinions? Ron Deane edeane@cfl.rr.com please help
No
No.
No, a broken bone can include surgery while a fracture can include a cast for the body to heal the fracture itself.
Not with out treatment.

To you mean the joint itself? The elbow, AKA the proximal-distal axis of the humerus and ulna, respectively.Or just the distal epiphysis of the humerus (the rounded head of the bone which is farther fromthe arm's point of attachment to the torso)
let it resolve itself
The fracture itself wouldn't swell but the tissue around it would.
The elbow is not in and of itself a bone. It is the joining of the humerus, ulna, and radius-most specifially, the humerus and ulna. The bony point that we think of as the elbow is part of the ulna (one of the forearm bones). It is called the olecranon process. The smaller bumps on the sides are parts of the humerus (upper arm bone). They are called epicondyles.
