I don't believe there is such a thing as regular laptop programs. all the computers will probably have the same software, though, just the M11X much faster than all other 11" computers. If what you want is Microsoft office (Word. PowerPoint, ) NO. Of course, no computers really come with that anymore.
M11x or MacBook Air?
m11x, anyday. macbooks are way overpriced for what their giving. m11x is also a much better gaming computer. True, but, Alienware does too. Better value for ASUS. But the M11x is amazing. I have it right now. :)

Is Alienware's m11x better than m17x?
The main difference between m11x and m17x is that the screen size. m11x is 11inches whereas 17x is 17inches. To decide which is more powerful, it depends on the internal components which u can customize. Though usually the larger m17x is more powerful than the m11x due to larger space used to fit better internal components.
Does the Alienware M11x have a CD or DVD drive?
No... but you could just go to dell's site to get an external disc drive it plugs in to the usb port
