There are two different types of Arthritis. Rheumatoid and Osteoarthritis. Neither are cause by bacteria. Osteoarthritis is caused by the physical breakdown of the layers of cartilage that protect the joints. Rheumatoid is cause by an immune system that attacks the cartilage and "cilia"(little tiny hair like structures) that act as lubricant in the joints. Osteoarthritis is treatable and usually does not become crippling. Rheumatoid Arthritis is a degenerative , progressive disease that can be treated to slow down it's progress and give pain relief to the patient, but cannot be cured and in most cases becomes a crippling disease.
