Soma's action is primarily via its primary active metabolite- a drug called Miltown (meprobamate), a now seldom prescribed anti anxiety medication also used as a muscle relaxant. Although Soma and Miltown effect many of the same neurotransmitters as benzodiazepines they are chemically significantly different.
