P0016 - Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor A)
symptoms
The engine may turn over but not start up
The engine may rattle near the harmonic balancer which means that the tone ring is damaged
The engine may start up and run, but run rough
cause
Timing chain is stretched, or timing belt skipped a tooth because its worn
Timing belt/chain not aligned
Tone ring on the crankshaft slipped or broken
Tone ring on the camshaft slipped or broken
Faulty crank sensor
Faulty cam sensor
Bad wiring to crank or cam sensor
Timing belt or chain tensioner faulty
The fix
Check the cam and crank sensors and their wiring for damage. If you see broken/frayed wires, repair.
If you have a scope, check the cam and crank patterns. If a pattern is missing, suspect a bad sensor or a slipping tone ring.
Remove the cam gear and crankshaft balancer and tone rings for proper alignment, make sure they're not loose or broken and they haven't sheared the alignment key. If they are correctly installed, replace the sensor. If the signal looks normal, then check the timing chain/belt for proper alignment. If it's not aligned, check for a damaged tensioner.
Also check that the belt or chain isn't stretched. replace and recheck.
Trouble code P0016 means: Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation - Bank 1 Sensor A Trouble code P0034 means: Turbo/Super Charger Bypass Valve Control Circuit Low
You will get error code P0016. And you will hear engine knock.
Have you retrieved a code from the ECM? If so what is the code. Is the speedo working?
This code is for a problem with the cam / crank correlation and the variable timing system. Several difernt things can cause this code. Anything from a bad sensor, solenoid, to internal engine problem.- Tech JK --------------------------------------
The speed sensor tells how fast the wheels are turning. The cruise control uses this to maintain the speed. When you get the code for speed sensor it is not working properly.
Evaporative Emission Control System MalfunctionCausesThe gas cap is not installed or working properlyThe purge solenoid has failedThe canister is plugged and not working properly
The cruise control on a 2002 Mercedes ML320 will stop working if the fuse has blown or the wiring has become loose. An OBDII code reader can be connected to the vehicle's computer to help diagnose the problem.
This means the vacuum control solenoid for the EVAP is not working and needs to be checked.
the code for the B.A.D control center is kissmyass
Yes, it shows that the catalytic converter is not working correctly for bank one. This is an important pollution control item.
i read somewhere that it has to do with theTCM (trasmission control module) and your instrument panel might stop working.
Trouble code P1545 means: Throttle Position Control Malfunction
