There are two factors involved here. One is that cake, generally speaking, is not healthy and should be had on occasion and only in small-to-medium amounts even then. This is without regard to weight-gain and applies (for example) to sugary, fatty, and salty foods.

The other factor is that weight-gain depends upon the total calories you eat, as balanced against your calorie expenditure. It doesn't depend upon any one specific food.
