They range from strong stout to very weak stout. -Step 5: Scotch Ale Scotch ale is malty and strong and dark. It often has caramelized notes and a slightly toffee flavor. It may be too strong for some people, but many love its dark, strong flavor. -Step 6: Old Ale Old Ale is just that, it is aged, and often strong and dark, also highly flavored.
