Sorry to tell you but white smoke from the exhaust is caused by coolant entering the combustion chamber. You have a blown head gasket. STOP driving this vehicle or you will destroy the engine.

Assuming you have not noticed and leaks or puddles near the car the next thing would be to watch for steam coming out of your tailpipe. If there is you probly have a bad head gasket.

the 2004 1 ton Chevy express does not have a fuel filter, as well as many new trucks. stop looking. i spent the time looking until i asked the gm dealer. they informed me that there is no fuel filter on this van. they don't even list a part for it, even though the owner's manual does. the black box in front of the fuel tank is the evap cannister, not the filter. not having a filter is sure to lead to fuel problems such as plugged injectors, but...?

Depend what filter you are referring to. A filter being clogged is the whole point of having one; it is to filter out impurities rather than let them damage the machine they are protecting.
