They will not work anymore. The law was passed last year that all channels with be delivered through digital cable only. You can go to your local cable company and they will supply you with a cable box if you want to receive the few free channels. I don believe there is a price to purchase the cable boxes though.

No you will be fine. The new cable converter boxes are for people who are using antennas (or some people call them rabbit ears) to receive a signal. These people will no longer be able to pick up this signal. If you television is able to connect to cable, it is okay.
