DirectX 10.1 supports all DirectX 10.0 card, including the GMA X3100. However, DX 10.1 introduces new features that are not supported in the GMA X3100. Even NVIDIA hasn't released a card that uses 10.1 features yet.

No. You may be able to use it with a DirectX 9 game, but the hardware does not support it, so you would have to use software rendering.

No, it does not. Intel x3100 GMA is for simple use of video memory. Maya uses exhausting graphics memory which should be dedicated and X3100 comes with 0mb of Dedicated graphics/video memory. You will able to run Maya though, but the rendering time and working over projects will be infuriating because of the incapabilities of Intel X3100 GMA. I ran both 3ds Max 9 and Latest edition of Maya Unlimited, Maya refused to render my character to highest details because of inavailability of compatible graphic card. And the rendering time of single wall picture with few maps and transparency effects took a hell lot of time, so many times my computer would go 'Not Responding' state and I had to lose so much time and often my computer would crash due to the hell 'GMA'. I advice you to try ATI and If money is not a concern then I strongly recommend you to head for Nvidia 9800 or Nvidia GTx 280 OC (If you can wait then GTX 295 is going to launch in January, it is way better than ATI 4870X2). The most likely-to-work tip is to downgrade your directX.

DirectX doesnt have nearly as much to do with this as your video card. Pixel shader technology is hard-coded into your video card and its drivers. No matter what version of directX you are running, if your video card doesnt have pixel shader, your system will not be able to run any games requiring it.

One core will be too little, however the game will run. Your framerate will be very low, and definitely not playable. More important than the Central Processing Unit is your graphics card. If you have dedicated graphics memory and a powerful graphics card, the game might run. If you have integrated graphics such as the Intel x3100 (g965 chipset) then you will not be able to run the game unless you have 1.5ghz+ dual cores. I pull in about 20-30 fps on average with a Intel core 2 duo t5450 (1.66ghz) and the x3100 integrated graphics card, which is playable. Single card will definitely have some problems though. I'd be impressed if you could achieve even 5 frames per second, even with all of your graphics set to the minimum. Good luck though
