In any animal mating, there is no guarentee of sucess, if a male went missing after mating this should not affect the pregnancy, however if the male was kept in the same kind of cage as the female a new cage may be in order. (baby hamsters do get up and wander around, and if an adult can fit through bars so should the babies)
If you're not quite sure what you're doing, look it up because stress can lead to 1) health problems 2) mum could eat her babies and 3) the more times a female gives birth, the shorter she will live.
