Long answer - They were testing the waters after a long time with Die Hard 4, just to see what would happen and it's cinema debut generated the most money out of the series. Film studios like this and Bruce Willis liked making it. So providing a story Willis is happy about bringing John McClane in to, the go-ahead will commence.

∙ 10y agoNo- it was scrapped because Mel Gibson refused to do it without Richard Donner as the director. Now it is going to be a reboot with young actors taking over the roles.
