Boiling make water turn to gas, however, the steam most people refer to is the white cloud or smoke. The white smoke is the fine condense droplet of water because it come to contact with cold air. Actual water gas is colorless.
water gas is prepared by steam over white hot coke
the difference is that water vapour is just one particle that joins together with more and more to form steam
Cause it was heavy
Fristly, you notice some sort of white smoke that do not make you cough. Or, you wont see it, in that situation, it is spred into the air... mostly in cold days. To see the steam in the cold days. take a peice of glass, heat it a litle so it will be a little hot, and put it outside in the cold. after a while you'll notice some sort of "Fog" on the glass... that is the steam in the air. Signed : The-G-Man Steam that is part of the air was once a "rope" of steam. (You'll see a white smoke coming out of chimnise" and has been spread in the air. mostly found in cold days. you can "trap" them with a piece of heated glass that is placed outside in the cold. Simply heat a litle piece of glass, then put it outside in the cold. after a wihle you'll notice some sort of "Fog" that is at the glass, That is Steams of water that was once in the air. It could be steam from the heater core
white smoke is water, black smoke is oil. remember that!
Blue smoke is oil burning, White is steam(water), Black smoke is unburnt fuel.
Could be that the lawn was wet and that the white smoke was actually steam.
it is steam from water being used as a coolant for the plant.
Most cars have a little white smoke on start-up, but a consistent plume of white hot smoke is caused by antifreeze leaking into your combustion chamber and being expelled as steam. This is a bad thing.
White smoke especially when starting tends to indicate that water is finding its way into the the exhaust system, where it is boiling and exiting the exhaust as steam. The possible cause could be water getting into the cylinders (perhaps from a damaged gasket).
head gasket lead Black Smoke is too much Fuel getting into cylinders, BLue Smoke is Oil leaking into cylinders and being burned, White Smoke is Coolant (or water) leaking into cylinders and is being converted to steam that gets blown out the exhaust pipe. TommyTrouble

It can.

white smoke does not always mean oil. Where is the smoke coming from. Sometimes small pin holes in the water system can cause a white smoke or steam which appears to be smoke. If the engine is at idle that would be the only time you could see that type of hole until it gets bigger. Check for any loss of water/antifreeze in the vehicle.
