Well it's cutting a fine line, but so long as the tissue hasn't been damaged you may be able to go back to a normal-ish looking lobe, but it will take time. If you go up any more it's going to be a no to a relatively normal return.
If you mean stretching as in putting in spacers for an earring hole, then you are correct it will slowly decrease but will never go back to normal. Some people have had success seeing a plastic surgeon and having reconstructive surgery.
