Yes you do, unless you dont wanna pass smog, also your check engine light will come on without it.
100 to 150 miles
The check engine light comes on when you turn the key to the on position to show you that it is not burnt out. If it doesn't come on for that brief period then the bulb just needs to be replaced.
Drive the vehicle for 5 full driving cycles and if the light stays off you are ok and can pass inspection.
negative but if you don't fix the problem, it will come back on again and it won't pass smog if it was reset.
There are pages and pages of things that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked with a scantool. Then the code can be diagnosed and repaired.
I found this information at http://www.smogtips.com Contrary to public belief, the Check Engine light being illuminated anytime during the smog inspection is automatically a smog failure. Vehicle manufacturers have placed the Check Engine light inside the passenger compartment to inform the driver there has been or is an engine or drive train malfunction. Very often you may not notice an engine problem, but this is only because your engine's computer is operating under pre-programmed information rather then of real-time. In other words the problem still exists but your engine learns to live with it. To avoid spending hundreds down the road, the Check Engine light should be diagnosed as soon as possible by a reputable and certified auto repair station. Our recommendation is you have a certified smog repair shop conduct a full system diagnosis. Along with the "Check Engine" light being illuminated or not, there are stored computer codes in the engine contol computer which the smog station will be able to retrieve and use for diagnosing purposes. These codes more then often will direct the smog technian in finding the fault. For more information you may want to locate a reputable smog service center in your area by simply typing in your zip code in the Smog Shop Locator search section at www.smogtips.com
The check engine light (service engine soon) comes on and stays on when a problem is detected by the self diagnosis system of your vehicle. Generally, the problem is in the emissions or something that is affecting the effectiveness of the emissions, but other causes can trigger the light to come on, too. To determine the cause, the vehicle will need to be taken to a parts store or a shop that has an OBD2 scanner, or for 1995 and earlier models, an OBD1 scanner, While a scanner will not give you the magic answer, it will give you a code that narrows down the problem area. You will have to repair the cause of the light to pass smog. If you simply shut the light off, the smog test will still fail.
It can, if the cars computers have not had enough time to do all of their self diagnostics it will fail smog. They don't want you resetting the light on your way to the test.
Need to specify the problem, anything that trips the engine light will cause it to fail, which could be a thousand different things to fix so it will pass
There could be many reasons why your car will not pass the smog check in your state. The inspection center should have given you a code as to why the car failed.
it will free up some horse power but it wont pass smog and it WILL throw a "check engine light" but it will definitely continue to run smooth (unless something else is wrong)
