Better known as Boss Tweed, he was the leader of the Tammany Hall political machine that ran the democratic party in New York City for much of the 19th century. He served as a member of the House of Representatives, and was also a director of a railroad and several banks. He basically got anyone he wanted elected to various government positions from NYC, but was eventually convicted of mass corruption and stealing.
