If you plug in your pen drive or External HDD & while ejecting it says windows cant stop your generic volume,don't plug it out as such.

I would suggest to install "PROCESS EXPLORER" which is a Microsoft product, that can help you to solve on this.

Install it, it will show all the process & which process use what resource.

Press Ctrl+f (find) & type in the drive name. it will list all the process that drive uses at that time.,either close that application or exit so that you can easly remove safely without pulling it out..
