Le Corbusier was a pioneer of modern architecture. His early works and writings in L'Espirit Nouveau, culminated in his manifesto - Five Points Towards A New Architecture. This set out the his ideas of what purist, logical modern architecture, based upon scientific research should look like.

His most influential early work was the Villa Savoye, which demonstrated clearly the ideas set out in the five points.
