No telling. Would the breakaway colonies have survived the war against the British if it weren't for French aid and assistance ? Who knows. In both cases, though, it was clearly the right thing to do, and only enhanced the honor and reputation of France and the US.

There are five wars that occurred between 1948 and 1973 (the Israeli Independence War, the Sinai War, the Six-Day War, the War of Attrition, and the Yom Kippur War). Of them, the United States only provided aid to Israel in the Yom Kippur War. In the Israeli Independence War, the Soviet Union was Israel's primary backer via Czechoslovakia. (The Soviet Union's position would completely change in the 1950s.) In the Sinai War and the Six-Day War, France and the UK (to a lesser extent), backed Israel. In the War of Attrition, Israel was using assets it retained from the previous three wars. It was only in the Yom Kippur War that Israel received US aid.
It is likely that Israel would not have survived the Yom Kippur War without US aid, but this is because the Arab countries had extensive Soviet aid and weaponry from the Six-Day War, the War of Attrition, and directly prior to and during the Yom Kippur War. (In the War of Attrition, Soviet soldiers actually gave their lives fighting for Egypt, whereas no US soldier has fallen in defense of Israel.)
