it IS surgery after all. It's not like the dog wouldn't notice. But if the vet does its job properly it should be only minor discomfort which buys the dog a longer, healthier Life and the owners less trouble.

∙ 12y agoIt all depends on your dog's breed and life expectancy. Dogs with longer life spans would probably be okay, but shorter living dogs probably wouldn't be good candidates for being spayed.

Actually, since the dog is not spayed at this time, they would simply abort/remove the puppies at the same time the dog is being spayed. It typically does not cost any more $$ than the cost of the surgery alone.
