Which is nitrated faster toluene or phenol Explain?

The nitration of phenol is more rapid than that of toluene.

Does phenol give a positive biuret test?

No. The Biuret test only gives a positive result if a peptide bond exists. Phenol doesn't have a peptide bond, so it will not give a positive test.

What does the positive KMnO4 test indicate?

It means that it tests positive for either aldehyde, alkene, or phenol functional groups.

Why do ibuprofen and naproxen not give a positive test with 1 percent ironIII chloride?

Iron (III) Chloride reacts with the Phenol group. Ibuprofen and Naproxen do not have a phenol group. Acetaminophen, on the other hand, does have a phenol group with would indicate a positive test (purple color change) with in the presence of Iron (III) Chloride.

Explain the purpose of the phenol red in the medium?

To determine if a bacterium can ferment a particular carbohydrate and determine the end products of that fermentation

Why would vanillin test positive in a ferric chloride test?

It would test positive because there is a phenol group in vanillin.

What are the results for Pseudomonas aeruginosa in phenol red broth?

Negative for both. Pseudomonas does not ferment sugars.

Explain the function of phenol red in the urea broth medium?

phenol red act as the pH indicator. As the substrate urea is split into products, the presence of ammonia caused alkaline environment that cause the phenol red to turn to deep pink. Useful to test Proteus vulgaris.

Why phenol do not give protonation reaction readly?

Electron density on oxygen in phenoxide ion is decreased due to resonance. The oxygen rather acquire a positive charge. Therefore phenol does not give protonation readily

Does phenol red mixed with calcium chloride and baking soda turn out to be a exothermic or endothermic?

it results in a exothermic reaction

Structure of phenol?

HOW IS IT POSSIBLE FOR AN ORGANISM TO BE POSITIVE FOR GLUCOSE USE IN A PHENOL RED TEST BUT NEGATIVE IN THE METHYL RED TEST?

Methyl red differs from Phenolred (which is used in the fermentation test and the MSA plates) in that it is yellow at pH 6.2 and above and red at pH 4.4 and below. Phenol red turns yellow below a pH of 6.8. If you get a positive with methyl red and a negative with phenol red, the pH has to be between 6.7 and 6.1.
