yes if your car or truck has a schuled matience program in its onboard computer,or from belt not being tight enough.tighten your belt.then disconnect the battery neg. then cut the lights on in the car to drain the rest of the juice left in the car.that will reset the check engine light in most cars,if light comes on agin get codes from engine and check and clean sensors

Did you reset the light? I don't know what gasket you changed, but undoubtedly that was not the problem. The check engine light comes on when there is a problem with the emissions system.
