yes. infact, the government did a study recently that indicated that if the black market cannabis industry was legitimized and the "product" had attached state sales tax; the total tax dollar revenue for just the first year would be worth more than 2 billion dollars... and that was the studies most conservative estimate! :)

Not to mention the 42 billion dollars spent each year simply to fight illegal trade of marijuana. Albeit there will be some illegal trade, as there still is with alcohol, so let's say the government sets 2 billion aside to combat this. This is still a 40 billion dollar increase in revenue for the U.S.! Plus this takes said money out of the hands of *criminals that leads to weapons etc that are used in other crimes. (*unless like most you consider our own government as criminals)

Will marijuana ever be legalized in America?

There is no way someone can answer this and be correct, but i believe that it will become legal some day. It probably wont be completely legalized though, hopefully just decriminalized. Marijuana is something that the government wont be able to completely control, so they probably would not want to completely legalize it in America.

If marijuana was legalized, would it help raise funds for the US economy?

If marijuana was legalized, it would help the US economy, as the government would be able to start taxing it like they do tabacco and alcohol.

Should the use of marijuana be legalized for nonmedicinal use?

Yes marijauna should be completely legalized. Marijuana is the most widely used and biggest money maker in the country. If it was legalized and taxed like cigarettes the U.S. would be out of debt in no time.

How would you buy marijuana if it were legalized?

Why marijuana should stay illegal?

If Marijuana is legalized then odds are that it will be taxed heavily like cigarettes. Marijuana should not stay illegal. If it is legalized, crime rates will be reduced and organized crime and cartels will lose some of their power and influence. Why not legalize it? anyone that cares to do 30 minutes of research on it would know that it's harmless when compared to alcohol or cigarettes.

What type of funding would be required for the legalization of marijuana?

The only type of funding that would be needed to legalize marijuana is to interest groups like the MPP(Marijuana Policy Project). The MPP generated almost $6 million in 2008. They use this money to launch campaigns and send lobbyists to Washington D.C. to promote the legalization of marijuana. Otherwise, if marijuana was legalized, it would result in large revenues from taxation, just like alcohol or tobacco. Overall, it would generate more money from taxation than it cost to supply money to interests groups to help get it legalized. If marijuana was legalized, it is estimated to produce 5 to 9 billion dollars in untaxed revenue. A comparison would be to tobacco and alcohol. In 1991, tobacco generated $10.9 billion in taxes and alcohol generated $11 billion in taxes.

How would you become a medical marijuana study trial patient?

There is no such thing as a medical marijuana "study trial" patient. If you live in a state that has legalized marijuana for medical purposes then you need to go to www.weedtracker.com and find a doctor that can write you a recommendation for you. In California at least this is a very common and easy thing to do. The cost is around $100 for a year's recommendation. If you don't live in a state that has legalized marijuana for medical use you should 1) move 2) get it legalized in your state 3) try to start your own "study trial" program. Good luck getting a permit from the DEA though.

How could cops test marijuana in the system of a driver if marijuana were legalized?

If the Police think your under the influence they could make you do a field sobriety test. Then if you fail the test I guess they would arrest you and make you do a blood test...

Would legalizing marijuana pull the us out of a recession?

Technically the US won't be able to completely heal from the recession by legalizing marijuana. But studies have shown that if legalized and taxed at a price around $50/ounce, that the US would receive 16 billion in revenues a year which would definitely help in our economy. In California, where medical marijuana is legal, there is a bill in office trying to legalize the use of cannabis with similar laws to alcohol. Because marijuana is California's #1 cash crop, there would be a 1 billion dollar a year of extra taxes just if California legalized cannabis. How will the economy crisis be relief by making marijuana legal?

Marijuana is the #1 cash crop in the U.S., if we were to legalize it and tax it we would have a significant new source of tax income. In addition to the state and federal governments having more money at their disposal, legalization would open up business opportunities for local store owners. If hemp were legalized to grow, which is a sister plant of marijuana, it could completely replace the cotton industry, due to its structure and the fact that it adds nutrients to the soil where it is grown, instead of depleting it like cotton does.
