I strongly think manners are important in this day and age, firstly because of how they make people feel, secondly how manners will gain you respect and lastly how they stop you from causing harm towards people's feelings.

My first point is about how manners can stop the people around you from feeling uncomfortable. In this day and age, manners are not all about eating nicely and quietly, it's about paying attention to the people around you, not making rude remarks or talking behind some-ones back, even laughing at some-ones joke even if it is not funny can help. Manners are about making people feel comfortable around you. They are a form of caring.

My second point is how manners gain respect. The people who tend to be ill-mannered have hardly any friends and the people around them gain negative thoughts towards the person. Nobody likes rude people. You don't have to praise a person to have good manners, showing you are thankful and asking politely for things are more likely to get you the help you need. Manners will gain you respect.

And finally, my last point is about lying and manners. Unless you're a chef judge or something alike, it's always best to say some-ones cooking were great even if it was really horrible, it's showing you're polite. White Lies may not be morally right, but these days it's increasingly necessary, if you don't want to ruin a friendship or cause harm.

These are my reasons why I consider manners to be needed in this day and age, because of how they make people feel, how they can gain your respect and finally how they can stop you from causing harm towards someone.
